沧州位于河北省东南部，东临渤海，西接保定，南界齐鲁，北靠京津，1988年被中国国务院批准为沿海开放城市。全市现辖4县级市、10县、6区，总面积1.4万平方公里，人口685万。

Cangzhou is located in the southeast of Hebei Province. It faces the Bohai Sea in the east, borders Baoding City in the west, adjoins Shandong Province in the south, and is adjacent to Beijing and Tianjin in the north. In 1988, Cangzhou was approved by the State Council as one of the open coastal cities. At present, Cangzhou administers 4 county-level cities, 10 counties, and 6 districts. Covering an area of 14,000 square kilometers, Cangzhou has a total population of 6.85 million.

Cangzhou is an ancient city with long history. The Grand Canal is passing through its territory from the north to the south for about 214 kilometers. The rich and generous culture left over from the ancient times has melted together the hometown of acrobatics, martial arts, casting, Ya pear, golden-thread dates, and winter dates. These have made up a colorful and fascinating picture of folk customs along the Grand Canal.

沧州因为这尊铁狮子而得名为“狮城”。仰天长啸的铁狮子，是沧州的象征，也是沧州人崇拜的图腾。铁狮子铸造于五代后周广顺三年，也就是公元953年。这座被称为“镇海吼”的铁狮子长6.1米、高5.48米、宽3米、重达40吨，素有“狮子王”的美誉，它是我国古代铁铸工艺的珍品，是全国第一批重点文物保护单位。它的铸造比美国和法国的炼铁术早七八百年，在世界冶金史上具有里程碑的意义。

The Iron Lion, also named as “Sea Controlling Roari”, was cast in 953 A.D., the 3^rd year of the rein of Guangshun in Houzhou Dynasty. Weighing 40 tons, the Iron Lion is 6.1 meters long, 5.48 meters high and 3 meters wide. It is the existing largest cast iron art piece in China. The Iron Lion, which names Cangzhou as Lion City, is one of the key historical relics under state protection.

沧州是中国武术发源地之一。千百年来，沧州武林精英荟萃，豪侠云集，形成浓厚的习武、尚武民风。源起或流传沧州的武术门类、拳械达53种之多，占全国129种的40%，其中沧州八极拳和劈挂拳被列入国家最具代表性的十大优秀传统拳种之中，作为武术竞赛的规定套路，向海内外推出。全市640多家拳社培养了大批武术人才。1992年,沧州市被国家体委首批命名为“武术之乡”。

As one of the origins of Chinese martial arts, Cangzhou currently has 53 kinds of martial arts sects and boxing styles, which accounts for 40 percent of the total 129 kinds in China. Among which, Baji Boxing and Pigua Boxing have been listed in the Top 10 excellent traditional boxing styles to be recommended home and abroad. At present, there are over 640 martial arts schools in Cangzhou. Hundreds and thousands of people are practicing martial arts. In 1992, Cangzhou was nominated as Hometown of Martial Arts by the State Physical Culture and Sports Commission.

吴桥县的杂技艺术历史悠久，民谣有“上自九十九，下至刚会走，吴桥耍杂技，人人有一手”。吴桥杂技艺术以其源远流长、技艺精湛、人才济济而成为杂技艺术的发祥地，在国内外享有盛名，被誉为“杂技之乡”、“世界杂技艺术的摇篮”。吴桥杂技大世界为国家首批4A级景区。景区内有江湖文化城、杂技奇观宫、魔术迷幻宫、杂技民俗风情园、滑稽动物园等八大景点。在这个浓缩的杂技世界里,追寻杂技艺术源远流长的历史，领略中外杂技艺术的精华，身临其境地触摸到杂技艺术的方方面面。

An old saying goes like that, “all the people in Wuqiao, be he an old man of 99 or a baby just learning to walk, can do tricks-playing.” Wuqiao has been praised as “Hometown of Acrobatics” and “the Cradle of World Acrobatic Art”. 东光的“铁佛寺”始建公元973年。在铁佛寺大雄宝殿正中的释迦牟尼佛为铁铸，这是我国最大的座式铸铁佛像。铁铸的释迦牟尼佛神态慈祥，气度不凡，金光普照。

Dongguang Iron-Buddha Temple was first built in the year of 973. The statue of Sakyamuni in the Hall of Great Hero was cast with iron, and it is the largest sitting-posture Buddha statue in China.

河间自古就是诗经文化的传授研究之邦，更是诗经文化的发祥地。一代又一代的诗经学者大师为中华传统文化的发展传承做出了不可磨灭的贡献。河间诗经斋保存着《诗经》最多的版本，成为世界吉尼斯之最。

Since ancient times, Hejian City has been the place for the impartment and research of “Book of Songs”, and it has also been the birthplace for the culture of Book of Songs. The scholars and masters of many generations have made great contributions to the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture. Qiantong Town in Yanshan County was the departure place for Xu Fu (an alchemist in Qin Dynasty) and his followers to search for the longevity medicine for First Qin Emperor, and their fleet finally succeeded in arriving in Japan.

单桥是沧州市献县境内一座明代石桥，它地处北京至南京古御道和滹沱河的交汇处，是国家重点文物保护单位。几千年的中国传统文化集中展示在了这露天的艺术画廊中。

Shan Bridge is located in the territory of Xianxian County, Cangzhou City. It is a stone bridge constructed in Ming Dynasty at the cross of Hutuo River and the ancient imperial road from Beijing to Nanjing. As one of the key historical relics to be protected by the State, the splendid Chinese culture has been vividly displayed on this outdoor art gallery.

沧州是个有45个民族的多民族集居区，在沧州有一百多座清真寺，其中最有代表性的是泊头清真寺和沧州清真北大寺。泊头清真寺是全国重点文物保护单位，始建于明朝建文末年，历时18载，于1420年正式落成。

Cangzhou is populated by over 45 nationalities. Within its territory, there are over 100 mosques. Among them, the most representative ones are Botou Mosque and Cangzhou North Grand Mosque. Botou Mosque is one of the key historical relics to be protected by the State. It was first constructed in Ming Dynasty. Through 18 years of construction, it was finally completed in 1420.

白洋淀是华北平原最大的淡水湖泊。366平方公里水面白洋淀水域辽阔，3700条沟壕和12万亩芦苇分割成大小不等、形状各异的143个淀泊。小船划进芦苇荡，如同进入了迷宫一般。不过这里的每一条水道都是相连的，有时明明看到的是一堵密不透风的芦苇墙，而小船儿划到跟前的时候，却又豁然开朗，眼前又出现了苇暗花明的美景。

白洋淀的荷花因为有作家孙犁的重笔描摹，更是名扬四海。这里的荷花也确实漂亮，游客穿行苇荡，在碧水间观荷赏莲，用“接天莲叶无穷碧，映日荷花别样红”这句古诗形容这里的景色真是再恰当不过了。

Baiyangdian Lake is the largest freshwater lake in North China. It covers an area of 366 square kilometers, and consists of 143 small lakes. It is known as Pearl of North China and Kidney of North China for its abundant resources and significant ecological effects. On the rippling blue lake, lotuses are blossoming, the birds are playing and searching for food in the reeds…. This is the scene at Baiyangdian Lake.
